How To Do Your Hair Spa Treatment At Home

How To Do Your Hair Spa Treatment At Home

A hair spa treatment is like giving your hairs a “new birth”. It includes moisturising and nourishing your hairs to reverse the damage or rejuvenate them. But getting a hair spa done at a salon is a pain in the ass!!

First, you need to get an appointment, then leave the comfort of your bed to reach the salon and then let them apply a lot of chemicals to your hairs and scalp which may make you temporarily love your hairs but in the long-term is going to damage your hairs and just forget about the kind of money you will be paying to get yourself a few hours of chemical treatment.

Damaged hair, dandruff, hair fall, dry frizzy hairs, and oily hairs are some common problems all women face. A hair spa could improve your hair health and make you actually fall in love with your beautiful locks.

What Is Hair Spa?

Any Professional Salon’s Hair Spa Treatment includes the following steps:

  1. Oiling the scalp

  2. Steaming hair

  3. Shampoo

  4. Conditioning

  5. Hair Mask

I am going to give you easy home remedies and simple DIY recipes to do all the 5 steps at home, completely naturally and at little to no cost.

Step 1: Oiling

Hair-Spa-DIY-Homeremedies
  • Take any basic oil which you have available at home- Olive oil, Coconut oil, Jojoba oil or Almond oil. ( Coconut Oil is my personal favorite)

  • Warm up the oil a little bit.

  • Divide your hairs into small-small sections and massage the oil on scalp and hairs for 5-10 minutes. Make sure to cover the tips as well.

  • Massaging warm oil improves blood circulation and boosts hair growth.

Step 2: Steaming

Hair-Spa-DIY-Homeremedies

I am going to give you two ways of steaming your hairs. Choose the one convenient for you.

Method 1:

  • Take some water in a pot and boil it till steam starts forming.

  • Now keep the pot on a table and bend over it.

  • Cover your head and the pot with a towel and steam your hairs for 10 minutes.

Method 2:

  • Dip a towel in warm water and squeeze out the excess water.

  • Wrap the towel around your hairs and let it stay for 5-6 minutes.

Step 3: Shampoo

You can use a mild sulfate-free shampoo to wash your hairs. Use cold or warm water to wash your hair, never use hot water as it is harmful to the hair roots and increases hair-fall.

You can also mix cinnamon powder if your hairs are brown or cocoa powder if you have brunette hairs.

Coconut Shampoo

Mix 2 tablespoons of organic honey, 1 can of organic coconut milk, 1 teaspoon organic castor oil, 2 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar, and 1 teaspoon organic jojoba oil.

Massage this over your hair and scalp. Keep it for five 5 minutes and wash.

Mix ¼ cup of water with ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar and rinse your hairs with it.

Beer Shampoo

Take one cup of organic beer and put in a pan. Heat it over a medium-high burner. Boil the beer for 20 minutes till it is reduced to half a cup. Remove from heat and let it cool completely. Pour the beer into an organic shampoo and stir well to blend it completely.

Step 4: Conditioning

Hair-Spa-DIY-Homeremedies

It’s time to condition your hairs and I am giving you only a few options because all the ingredients used in the DIY shampoos and the hair masks discussed are already moisturising. So, you can even skip this step but if you want to go for all the steps, I have given you 3 best options to choose from.

Apple Cider Conditioner

2 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar

1 cup of water

8-12 drops of any organic essential oil (optional)

Sage or rosemary essential oils - good for all hair types

Tea tree, lemon, bergamot essential oils- good for oily hairs

Sandalwood, geranium or lavender essential oil- good for dandruff and dry hairs

Mix the ingredients together and keep in a spray bottle. Shake well and spray on your hairs. Leave for five minutes and then rinse off.

Honey And Aloe Conditioner

Organic honey

Organic aloe vera gel

Mix the ingredients in equal parts and massage into your hairs. Let it stay for 5-8 minutes and rinse hair well.

Coconut And Avocado Pre-Conditioner

1 cup organic coconut milk

1 avocado

Peel and mash the avocado and add conditioner. Blend the two to get a creamy consistency. Apply this mixture and keep for 15 minutes. Rinse it off.

If you are planning to use this conditioner, remember this a pre-conditioner so shampoo your hair after using it and not before it.

Hair-Spa-DIY-Homeremedies

I am giving you the best DIY hair mask options for every hair problem you face.

For Hair Growth

Oatmeal Hair Mask

Boil a cup of water and pour it over half a cup of dry oats. Use more if you have long hairs. Wait for 5 minutes and then blend it well. Add 1 tablespoon of almond oil and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar.

Make sure your hair is combed and dry. Apply the mask from roots to tip. Leave it for an hour or more and wash.

Mustard Hair Mask

Mustard increases the blood supply to the scalp and stimulates hair growth. Mix one tablespoon of mustard powder with one egg yolk and a tablespoon of warm water. Apply the mask to roots and hairs and let it stay for 15 minutes. Then wash it off.

If you don’t want your hair to smell like egg wash once more with the shampoo.

Lemon and Coriander Rinse

Lemon and coriander stimulate faster hair growth and prevent hair loss. Boil half a cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice and then pour it over 2 tablespoons of freshly chopped coriander leaves. Let it cool and gently massage it into hair roots. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash off.

Cinnamon And Honey Mask

Mix 1 tablespoon of honey, an egg yolk, a teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of almond oil.

Warm it slightly and massage into hair roots and the entire length of your hairs. Leave the mask for an hour and wash off.

For Dandruff

Strawberry Mask

Strawberries are rich in salicylic acid which are good for fighting dandruff. Mash a few strawberries until smooth and add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil, rosemary or peppermint oil. Apply the mask for an hour and wash off.

Ginger Mask

Mix one tablespoon of ginger juice and one teaspoon of lime or lemon juice and two drops of tea tree oil. Massage it into hair roots and let it dry. Rinse off well.

For Dry Hair

Cocoa Mask

Slightly warm two tablespoons of honey and add two tablespoons of cocoa powder. Add egg yolk and a tablespoon of almond oil or olive oil. Apply the mask and let it dry for 2 hours. Wash off with shampoo again to avoid the smell.

Banana Mask

Blend a banana with a tablespoon of honey, one egg yolk and a tablespoon of olive oil. Apply this mask for half an hour and wash with shampoo again.

Egg Mask

Mix 2 egg yolks with a tablespoon of castor oil and a tablespoon of almond oil. Mix a spoon of warm water to dilute the mixture and apply it for at least half an hour. Wash it off with a shampoo.

For Oily Hair

Baking Soda Mask

Add a teaspoon of baking soda to a ½ cup of mayonnaise or yogurt and apply for 30 minutes. Wash it off with water.

Yogurt Mask

Whip an egg white and stir it in a cup of yogurt. Add a teaspoon of baking soda and apply on dry hair. Leave it for 40 minutes and wash with cold water only.

Strawberry And Yogurt Mask

Mash a few strawberries and add 2 tablespoons of yogurt and massage into hair. Leave for just 10 minutes and wash off.

For Normal Hair

Milk And Honey Mask

Mix two tablespoons of honey with half a cup of slightly warm full-fat milk. Apply evenly on hairs and leave for 30 minutes. Wash off with a mild shampoo.

Beer Mask

Blend one banana until completely smooth and mix with one egg. Add ½ cup of flat beer and blend some more. Apply to scalp, roots, and hairs to the ends. Leave the mask for an hour and wash off with shampoo.

For Split Ends

Papaya Mask

Get rid of the skin and seed of one half of a papaya and blend it. Add a half cup of plain yogurt and mix again. Apply the mask for 30 minutes and wash off.

Banana Mask

Mash one ripe banana and mix it with 1 egg. Add 3 tablespoon of organic honey and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Apply this mixture to your hair and scalp. Let it stay for 30 minutes and rinse off with cold water and shampoo.

I have given the spa treatment according to the steps followed by any spa but since you are doing it at your own home spa you can skip conditioning or even switch the steps to do hair mask first and then shampoo. Since most of the hair masks I have discussed contain oils or eggs which may leave your hairs feeling oily or stinking at the end I would suggest you go for hair masks before shampoo to avoid shampooing two times.
