DIY Makeup Setting Spray

DIY Makeup Setting Spray

Touching up your makeup again and again can be a really annoying task. Since it’s summertime and pretty soon monsoons will arrive running makeup will be a common issue. While it’s advisable to normally avoid makeup during this season but what if you have to attend meetings or go to a party? Certainly you want to look the best but it’s likely that you won’t have the time to touch up your makeup in between.

Makeup setting sprays are a blessing in such situations. Obviously there are other ways like rubbing ice over your face before makeup or using water-proof products to increase the life of your makeup. However, a setting spray is much more effective if you have to stay out for longer periods or if the weather is sticky and humid.

Whether you are an avid DIYer who avoids the harsh chemicals in cosmetic products or you have a sensitive skin or you are just cheap like me these homemade setting sprays are ideal to get a long lasting solution to fading or running makeup.

Tips and Suggestions

  • Use a makeup primer before starting your routine makeup as it further increases the life of your makeup.

  • You can use these DIY makeup sprays for many days if you store the bottle in the refrigerator.

  • Don’t prepare the sprays in large quantities as they may get spoiled. It’s better to store them just for a few days and then prepare a new batch after that.

  • Instead of normal glycerin you can also use vegetable glycerin.

  • Hold the spray bottle at arm’s length from your face before spraying. Close your eyes while spraying to avoid any irritation.

  • One very important tip, even if you use natural ingredients always do a patch test before using any product to see whether it suits your skin or not.

  • Air dry your spray before heading out and do not overspray.

  • Add Vitamin E oil to any of the spray recipe to increase its shelf life and any essential oil of your choice for fragrance and other benefits associated with it.

  • Do not ever rub your spray into the skin, this will smudge your makeup instead of making it long lasting.

  • Add liquid highlighter or shimmer drops to your spray to get a glowing look.
