33 Effective Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Skin Tags Naturally

Mostly seen in people after the age of 60 skin tags can also occur among youngsters.

Although they are not cancerous or have any medical concern related to them they are a huge cosmetic concern. These benign growths are neither painful nor cause any discomfort. However, if subjected to friction or damage caused by jewellery or clothing a small blood clot may appear causing pain.

People are generally concerned about them when they are on visible areas such as on the face.

They are commonly caused in areas where the skin folds and where moisture and friction are common but they can occur anywhere on the body. Skin tags are most commonly seen in areas such as in the armpits region, on the neck, under the breasts, near the genitals, on eyelids or on the torso.

You might find some skin tag removal methods on the internet that involve cutting, twisting, using duct tapes, nail polish and some other harsh chemicals on them. These methods are dangerous and may cause infection or scarring of the affected area.

You can visit a doctor to get your skin tag surgically removed, burned off (Cauterisation), frozen off (Cryotherapy), removed by laser or tied by a string and left to die, etc.

However, there are tons of natural remedies which might take longer but are much safer to get rid of skin tags.

Natural Remedies For Skin Tag Removal

1. Banana Peel

Banana contains potassium which is an effective component when it comes to removing skin tags. It can help dry out the skin tag after repeated use.

Take a banana and scrap off the inside of the peel. Apply this on the affected area or use the peel as a gauze. Cut the peel and apply it on the affected area. Secure it using a duct tape and let it stay for 24 hours.

Repeat this until the tag falls over.

2. Pineapple Juice

Apply some fresh pineapple juice to the skin tag and let it dry. Keep applying this juice every 2-3 hours and repeat for a few days. Pineapple contains proteolytic enzymes which dry the skin tag.

3. Aloe Vera

Massage the skin tag with aloe vera juice or gel for 2-3 minutes. Leave it till the juice/gel dries. Repeat this three times a day. Aloe Vera has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

Take a cotton pad and pour some apple cider vinegar on it. Apply this on the affected area. Use duct tape or a bandage to keep it in place. Let it stay for a few hours. Repeat this twice a week until the skin tag falls off.

5. Baking Soda

Mix a few drops of castor oil with ½ teaspoon baking soda and form a paste. Apply this paste to the affected area for 1-2 hours. This paste changes the PH of the area which helps remove such growths.

Repeat this for at least 2-4 weeks daily.

6. Almond Oil

Massage the oil on the skin tag and surrounding area. Leave it on and do not wash. Keep applying it every few hours. Almond oil is rich in vitamin E. It not only removes the skin tag but also hydrates the skin and speeds up the healing process.

7. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has anti-fungal and antiviral properties. First, wash the affected area then use a cotton swab to massage the oil on the affected area. Cover the area with a bandage and let it stay overnight. Repeat this for several nights until the tag vanishes.

8. Bloodroot (Black Salve)

Clean the affected area with a cotton ball dipped in hydrogen peroxide. Apply the paste on the affected area and cover with a bandage. Change the bandage 3-4 times a day and make sure each time you clean with hydrogen peroxide before applying the paste. Use this remedy continuously for not more than 3 days.

Bloodroot is native to Canada and USA. It cuts off the blood supply to the skin tag causing it to fall off. If you are purchasing Black salve paste make sure it contains only Bloodroot and water no other ingredient.

Do not ingest Bloodroot it is poisonous.

9. Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is a non-peroxide type of honey. It cuts off the oxygen supply to the skin tag and helps remove it. Honey also has healing properties so it helps to heal the skin faster and prevents any scar formation.

Apply the honey on the skin tag and cover it with a bandage. Let it stay for a few hours. Repeat this 3-4 times a day. Continue till the skin tag falls off.

10. Peppermint Oil

Apply a mixture of 2-3 drops of peppermint oil and castor oil on the skin tags. Leave the oil on overnight. Repeat this every night. Peppermint oil has antiseptic as well as anti-inflammatory properties. In combination with the castor oil, it also reduces any swelling that may develop after the skin tag removal.

11. Witch Hazel

Witch Hazel is an astringent and balances PH. Apply witch hazel extract on the affected area and reapply it a few times a day till the skin tag vanishes.

12. Clove Oil

Mix 2-3 drops of both clove oil and rosehip oil. Dip a cotton ball in the mixture and apply it to the affected area. Leave it on. Repeat this once or twice a day. The phytochemical in clove oil cut off blood circulation to the skin tag and cause it to shed and rosehip oil will help the skin heal quickly without any scars.

13. Ginger

Ginger contains healing and anti-microbial properties. Rub a slice of ginger on the affected area for 2-3 minutes. Do not wash the area afterward. Repeat this  5-6 times a day.

14. Castor Oil

Castor oil has strong phytochemicals and is often used to remove skin tags. Castor oil also has wound healing and skin conditioning properties. Once the skin tag is gone, your skin will heal quickly and be hydrated and moisturised.

Apply 1-2 drops of castor oil on the skin and cover with a bandage. Reapply the oil 2-3 times a day.

15. Iodine

Protect the surrounding skin by applying petroleum jelly or coconut oil to the area. Soak a cotton pad in iodine and apply the liquid across the tag. Cover the area with a bandage until the iodine dries. Repeat twice a day until the tag falls off.

16. Dandelion Juice

Take a dandelion with the stem and extract the milky juice from the stem by squeezing it. Apply this liquid to the affected skin and cover it with a bandage. Do this up to four times a day and thoroughly clean and dry the skin before every application.

Do not use this remedy if you are allergic to daisies, marigolds, ragweed, chrysanthemums, and other similar plants because you might be allergic to dandelions also.

17. Neem Oil

Apply neem oil to the skin tag and cover it with a bandage. Keep replacing the bandage every few hours and reapply the oil every time. Neem oil contains essential fatty acids and other bioactive components that help get rid of skin tags.

18. Fig Juice

Fig stem juice is widely used for skin issues because it helps to balance the PH. Take some fresh fig stems and blend them to extract the juice. Apply this juice to the skin tag up to four times a day.

19. Oregano Oil

Oregano oil contains thymol, carvacrol, and p-cymene – three phenolic terpenoids components – and have powerful antibacterial properties. They also contain antimelanomic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and antiseptic properties.

Add four to six drops of coconut oil and two to three drops of oregano oil and apply this to your skin tag three times a day. Make sure to always use a carrier oil to dilute the oregano oil or else it may cause redness and irritation. This oil also must never be used near the eyes.

20. Papaya Peel

Use Papaya peel along with tea tree oil to treat your skin tags. Apply a few drops of tea tree oil on the skin tag and then apply Papaya peel on it. Cover it with a bandage and let it stay overnight. Repeat this every night till the skin tag falls off.

21. Lemon Oil

Apply this oil on the skin tags and leave it on. Repeat this 2-3 times a day. Lemon oil is an astringent and balances PH at the skin tag site. This causes the skin tag to shed by itself.

Do not expose the skin to sunlight after applying this oil. It can cause sunburn.

22. Cinnamon And A Healthy Blood Sugar Diet

Skin tags have also been linked to Type-2 diabetes. Adding cinnamon to your diet and eating low sugar, high protein, healthy fats, and high-fiber foods can help stabilise your blood sugar and help prevent future skin tags.

23. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil contains lauric acid – a powerful anti-microbial. Rub coconut oil into your skin tags every night before bed. Do not wash afterward.

24. Epsom Salt

Draw a warm bath and add Epsom salt to it. Soak in this water for 10-20 minutes. Alternatively, add half a teaspoon of Epsom salt to two tablespoons of water. Soak a cotton ball in this solution and place it on the skin tag for 15 minutes.

Soak your body in Epsom salt water every alternate day or place the soaked cotton ball on the skin tag twice a day.

25. Jojoba Oil

Massage the skin tag with1-2 drops of Jojoba oil. Leave it on and do not wash it off. Apply this oil two times a day in the morning and at night.

26. Lavender Oil

Apply a mixture of a drop of lavender oil and 1-2 drops of coconut oil on the skin tags. Repeat this twice a day and do not wash the area after applying the mixture. Lavender essential oil has antiseptic properties. It is a good remedy for skin tags.

27. Garlic

Garlic has anti-ageing properties and reduces inflammation. Apply crushed garlic over the skin tag and cover it with a bandage. Let it stay overnight. Wash the area in the morning and repeat this till the skin tag shrinks and disappears.

28. Cinnamon Oil

Apply the cinnamon oil to the skin tag and cover with a bandage. Reapply the oil twice a day and change the bandage every time. Cinnamon oil is also an antiseptic agent.  

29. Lemon Juice

Dip a cotton ball in lemon juice and apply it on the skin tag. Rinse it off after some time. Do this 2-3 times a week. The citric acid in lemon juice removes the dead cells of the skin tag.

30. Onion Juice

Add 1 teaspoon salt to a ½ cup of water and mix well. Soak 2-3 onion slices in this salt solution overnight. Apply this water to the affected area and repeat 2-3 times a day. Use fresh onion-soaked water every day.

Onion is rich in sulfur compounds and helps to heal scars and skin tags.

31. Vitamin E

Take a vitamin E capsule and squeeze out the oil. Massage the oil over the affected and surrounding area. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and will help the growth vanish in a few days.

32. Shea Butter

Take a small amount of shea butter and let it melt with your body heat. Add a drop of oregano essential oil and mix well. Apply this mixture on the skin tags. Use this mixture twice a day. This mixture will not only remove the skin tag but help the area heal and stay hydrated.

33. Aspirin

Mix aspirin with some water to form a paste and apply on the skin tag overnight. Aspirin will dry the skin and will make the skin tag vanish.

These remedies mentioned above are safe, effective, and cheap. Skin tags removal is not a necessity as there is no medical concern. However, if it’s visible and that bothers you go for a natural home remedy before going for a surgical or any other expensive process. If your skin tag still does not vanishes or its size grows or it causes discomfort it is better if you consult a doctor for proper guidance and treatment.
